10. Sources of graphics
We have covered some of the basic tools and features of a typical graphics package. But where do the graphics come from in the first place?
1. Create from scratch
If you are skilled enough, you may be able to create an image or illustration from a blank canvas. by making creative use of all the tools within a package. There are some amazing graphics artist who can do this.
2. Scanned image
You could paint or draw the image by hand on paper. You then use a scanner to create a digital file which you then import into the application.
3. Digital camera
For photographic work, you can import an image from a digital camera directly into the application. The image can then be manipulated and saved in many different formats.
4. Importing existing images
There are many photo libraries available on the internet that hold millions of images. You can use their browsing features to download the images you want, then import it into the application. Many are commercial libraries and so you need to pay a licence fee to use the image, but there are free 'creative commons' libraries available as well.
