5. Database Software
A database is an application which allows the effective storage of data and records in a logical way.
Databases can be computerised or paper-based, but for the purposes of this course we will discuss computerised databases.
What tasks would you do with a database?
- Entering and storing data e.g. customer records, lists of items such as books
- Sorting data - alphabetically and numerically. Although this can be done with a spreadsheet application, if the task has already guided you towards using a database then you would do your sorting of data in the database.
- Searching for data / running queries - Although this can be done with a spreadsheet application, if the task has already guided you towards using a database then you would do your searching of data in the database.
- Producing data entry forms
- Producing reports
- Mail merge
Challenge see if you can find out one extra fact on this topic that we haven't already told you
