Switchboard
A switchboard can have two meanings:
1. Telephone
In a telephone system, a switchboard sets up a telephone call. In the old days human operators would manually move connections to set up the call, but now most switchboards are fully automatic.
2. Database
A switchboard is a menu button interface within a database management system such as Access. When you press a switchboard button, a query is run to carry out the task in hand. Perhaps a button might be labelled "All Users", in which case you could expect all registered users to be displayed in a report.
Once the database has been created, the designer will often put together a switchboard to allow standard commands to be run. Users then, do not have to know the details of the query itself.
