Paste
This word is used to describe taking data from the clipboard and placing it in a document. You do of course have to have something in the clipboard to begin with, and so you have to 'Copy' data into it.
You will often hear the term "Cut and Paste" when you are editing documents. This describes the action of moving data from place in a document to another place within the same document or perhaps into another document altogether.
A 'clipboard' is a temporary storage area in RAM for holding data, with the view of moving the data somewhere else. Data can be anything you can select with a mouse such as images and text.
