Network Operating System
This is an operating system that has features geared towards handling network traffic and connections.
It allows for 'network transparency' which means the logged-on user is not aware of who else is logged on. Users need not be aware of the physical details or even location of network shares and so on.
Network operating systems also handle the logging on and authentication process.
