Gridline
A way of lining up items within a software application. They work both horizontally and vertically.
Imagine a set of evenly spaced horizontal lines running down a document and a set of vertical lines evenly spaced from left to right. They form a notional grid within the document.
Gridlines usually do not end up in the final document, they may not even be visible within an application, but they do have an effect when lining up items.
For example, in Photoshop, an image editing application, you can set out an invisible gridline and 'snap' objects to the nearest gridline when placing things on the canvas.
