Data Processing
This refers to the manipulation of raw data i.e. converting one set of data, often the input, into another set of data - which can then be used for further processing or as part of an output.
Examples of data processing
1. A data-logger collecting physical measurements would pass its data into a data processing application. This application converts the incoming data into a convenient file format for storage.
2. Data processing is very commonly used to present data in a human-friendly form. For example a CAT scan in a hospital takes millions of measurements on a patient and this is data-processed to produce stunning 3D images.
3. Data processing is often done on a chunk of data in one go, this is 'batch processing' as might happen in a stock control computer.
