Bitmap

This is a file format for digital images.

A bitmap is made up of a large number of dots (called pixels) arranged in a set of horizontal rows and columns For example a 600 by 800 pixel bitmap has 600 rows and 800 colums forming a rectangular image.

To appreciate the image being represented, you need to view it from a reasonable distance away such that each pixel is no longer apparent.

Bitmaps can be either compressed or uncompressed.

Bitmaps come in many file formats such as GIF, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PICT.
