4. What do customers need?

When a customer wants to buy products using ecommerce they will need:

  • A computer or other internet connected device e.g. smart phone, tablet
  • Access to the Internet
  • Find the web site / web shop they are interested in
  • Choose the item they want to buy
  • Add it to the 'shopping cart' present on the web site
  • Enter their personal details such as name, address and account number
  • Enter their payment method e.g. credit card, paypal, cheque
  • Confirm the order
  • Wait for their item to arrive or receive access information

If you are a regular customer, the web site may ask if you would like it to 'remember me' or to 'stay logged in'. What this means is that the web site will store your login details as a cookie on the computer you are using. So the next time you visit, the site will look to the cookie for your details.

Be careful though - you do not want to allow this if the computer is a public one (or a school computer) as anyone using the same site will get logged in as you.
